Our programming is geared for people from the ages of 10 to 100! For safety's sake, we do not recommend bringing children under the age of 5 to sailing sessions.
Beginner Sailing Sessions - These sessions are for beginners and for those who desire a refresher class. At the beginning of each of these sessions, we offer our Quick-Start Basic Sailing instruction, and head out into Millers Bay to practice reaching, running and tacking. If weather and time permit, we may also head into Lake Winnebago. Safety Boat and Instructors accompany sailors at all times. These classes will take place on Wednesday and Thursday evenings throughout the summer (with a few exceptions). They are part of the Oshkosh Recreation Department's Summer Activities. Class schedules, Registration and Payment are on the Oshkosh Recreation Department's website, www.oshkoshrecreationdept.com.
Continuer Sailing Sessions - If you can describe your understanding the basics of sailing (by learning from IYSO or elsewhere), and desire a chance to practice sailing (or just have fun!), these sessions are for you! We "warm up" in Millers Bay and head into Lake Winnebago to sail as a group wherever the wind takes us! Safety/Instructional Staff will accompany sailors at all times. These classes are offered by International Youth Sailing of Oshkosh (IYSO).To reserve your spot(s) in our Continuer Sailing Sessions, sign up here. For these sessions, payment is taken at the beginning of each session. IYSO accepts cash or checks, or you can use our QR Code.
All Participants, PLEASE NOTE:
In order to ensure that we have an accurate number of boats, we need and accurate headcount! Therefore, if you plan to meet or bring anyone sailing with you, please register them as well. If you are a parent registering your child(ren), please sign up each child using their own name(s) (not just your name).
Unless otherwise specified, all IYSO sailing opportunities begin and end at the Sailboat Dock located across the parking lot from the baseball diamonds in Millers Bay, Menominee Park, Oshkosh. We will text all participants approximately 2 hours prior regarding cancellations, changes, etc. due to weather. If you do not hear from us via text, the session is taking place!
Are there requirements?
What do you need to bring?
You should arrive prepared to be in the water, meaning you should be willing to try deeper water with a life jacket on - even if you don't swim!
You absolutely must bring your signed waiver!
You might also want to bring the following:
Can I bring my friends and family members?
Yes, as long as everyone is enrolled! Please keep in mind that we can only take 8-10 participants per session.
